Following retirement of a long standing team member, the CLA East team are now looking for a Rural Adviser / Surveyor to join at an incredibly exciting and pivotal time for the rural sector, to advise members, work on policy issues affecting the East and support the delivery of all CLA activities in the region.
This role is a fantastic opportunity to play an integral part in supporting CLA members to navigate the challenges they face, highlight opportunities to help them thrive, and lobby on their behalf. CLA are looking for someone with a broad appreciation of rural issues and a willingness and energy to engage in a variety of new subjects in the industry. You will have a specific focus on infrastructure projects affecting members across the region.
Working closely with the East team, and national property, land use, legal and tax teams, you will provide advice, opinion and guidance to CLA members on a range of issues relating to land ownership, occupation, land use, planning and rural business but in particular leading on compulsory purchase and infrastructure projects.
You will have the ability to influence policy and deliver real change in the rural sector by contributing to our policy development work and represent members’ views at stakeholder meetings.
The ideal person will:
- Have experience of land management and property issues such as agricultural, commercial and residential tenancies, planning, diversification, renewables, public access and other issues experienced by rural farms, estates and businesses
- Have experience of infrastructure projects and compulsory purchase, although training and support will be available
- RICS and/or CAAV qualification is desirable
- Be positive and have willingness and energy to engage in a variety of new subjects
- Have a desire to make a difference by helping farmers, landowners and rural businesses to influence policy
- Enjoy working with rural communities and building professional relationships
- Have a broad appreciation of rural issues
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have a high level of computer literacy
The Location, Team, and Working Arrangements:
The role is based outside of Newmarket, on the Stetchworth Estate. Flexible working will be available up to two days a week with core office days on Mondays and Wednesdays. Travel across the East region will be required as part of this role, however a Pool Car is available for your use.
You will be working in a small, friendly team of eight individuals, who are very passionate about the organisation and rural affairs. You would also be part of the CLA’s wider national team of over one hundred highly motivated individuals across England and Wales.
