As a Property/Planning Lawyer at HS2, you will provide advice on a range of legal matters with a particular focus on property, planning and compulsory purchase. The role will involve working closely with a number of functions across the organisation as well as external stakeholders.

About the role:
• Provide legal advice on a variety of issues connected with the acquisition of land for the HS2 project including negotiated acquisitions, compulsory purchase acquisition, acquisitions under HS2s discretionary purchase schemes and related compensation issues.
• Handle a case load of a variety of complex property/compulsory purchase matters which in some cases will include drafting and negotiating bespoke agreements.
• Provide legal advice on the management of HS2’s growing property portfolio and land access issues.
• Oversee the provision of legal advice in relation to litigation matters including tribunal and ADR.
• Act as a point of contact between external lawyers and the functions across the business including acting as intelligent client on complex transactions.
• Update and maintain standard form documentation.
• Assist in the preparation of reports and briefings for staff across HS2 including senior management.
• Attend meetings including with senior management as legal representative on property/compulsory purchase issues.
• Research into relevant legislation, case law and procedures.

About You:
• Qualified solicitor with experience in either property or planning/compulsory purchase.
• Experience of providing legal advice to high value construction or infrastructure project.
• Effective problem solving skills including working without established precedent or procedure.
• Effective planning and organisational skills in order to manage a large caseload.
• An understanding of the challenges facing the delivery of a major infrastructure project and the role of the in-house legal function as a key contributor to successful delivery.
• It is expected that you will actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
